cleaning vs. Disinfecting
The difference between cleaning and disinfecting comes down to semantics. Both cleaning and disinfecting aim to reduce the amount of contamination present on a surface by killing germs, but disinfecting—by definition kills more germs than cleaning. We offer Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Quarterly, and Yearly cleaning and disinfecting services. Please see below for more information.
Cleaning
Cleaning refers to organizing and wiping down surfaces, like countertops, so that they appear neat and spotless. All-purpose cleaners are built to lift and remove visible smudges, spots, stains, and debris from surfaces. Cleaning by itself won’t kill germs like bacteria, viruses, or fungi.

Disinfecting
Disinfecting kills viruses on surfaces or objects. 1 Step Beyond uses CDC guidelines to kill the virus. We’re qualified to use EPA registered chemicals combined with the appropriate direct contact to time ratio that will kill any virus on surfaces or objects. All surfaces need to be cleaned prior to disinfecting.
